Common appliance faults

Common symptoms can be grouped into water flow, temperature, drive, airflow and power. This structure helps prepare a report but does not replace measurements.

Safety rule: stop when there is smoke, sparking, a burning smell, electric-shock signs, an active leak, cracked hob glass or suspected gas. Disconnect only when it is safe to do so.

Water and drainage

  • No inlet, slow drainage, retained water and leaks.
  • Valves, kinks, filters and accessible containers are checked first.
  • An active leak near power is a stop signal.

Temperature

  • No heating, poor cooling, overheating and long cycles.
  • Settings, airflow and ambient conditions matter.
  • Heater, compressor and electronics measurements belong to a technician.

Movement, noise and airflow

  • No spin, unusual knocks, poor suction and loud operation.
  • Check balance, blockages and user-accessible items.
  • Rubbing, a burning smell or violent vibration requires stopping.
