How to assess appliance repair costs
The full repair price should be known before approval. Separate diagnosis from labour and parts, and agree a limit requiring renewed consent.
Safety rule: stop when there is smoke, sparking, a burning smell, electric-shock signs, an active leak, cracked hob glass or suspected gas. Disconnect only when it is safe to do so.
Price components
- Travel and diagnosis.
- Labour, parts, materials and post-repair testing.
- Transport, removal from fitted cabinetry and refitting.
- Service warranty and possible disposal.
Quote red flags
- No maximum-cost information.
- Replacement of many parts without explaining measurements.
- Demand for full payment without documentation or work description.
Better comparison
- Ask for alternatives when new and refurbished parts are possible.
- Compare with an appliance of similar capacity and features.
- Include age, previous repairs and parts availability.
