Safe appliance troubleshooting step by step
Safe troubleshooting starts by recognising hazards and only then looking for a cause. Sometimes the most valuable result is the decision not to power the appliance again.
Safety rule: stop when there is smoke, sparking, a burning smell, electric-shock signs, an active leak, cracked hob glass or suspected gas. Disconnect only when it is safe to do so.
Before touching the appliance
- Make sure the floor and your hands are dry.
- Do not move equipment when the cable, socket or water creates doubt.
- Record the code and photograph the symptom without approaching a hazard.
Checks without disassembly
- Settings, control locks and selected programme.
- Filters, containers and hoses clearly described by the manufacturer as user-accessible.
- Ventilation conditions, levelling and door closure.
When to stop
- When smoke, sparking, a burning smell or electric shock appears.
- When a leak approaches power or the appliance trips protection.
- When the next step requires removing a cover, electrical measurement, gas work or refrigerant work.
