How to check an appliance warranty

Before paying for repair, check manufacturer warranty, extra cover and seller responsibility. Terms and deadlines depend on country and contract.

Safety rule: stop when there is smoke, sparking, a burning smell, electric-shock signs, an active leak, cracked hob glass or suspected gas. Disconnect only when it is safe to do so.

Collect documents

  1. Proof of purchase, payment confirmation or order history.
  2. Warranty document and cover terms.
  3. Model, serial number and date the fault appeared.

Do not undermine a claim

  1. Do not open the cabinet or break seals.
  2. Do not order paid repair before checking the procedure if it may affect cover.
  3. Record symptom and code without risky attempts.

Provide specifics

  1. When the fault appeared and how often it returns.
  2. Which safe steps were tried.
  3. Whether the appliance was used according to instructions.
